Video-mail, the next generation of e-mail allowing a company to send out a short video as an e-mail, is now available locally for the commercial sector.
Voice and data solutions provider XBC Group is bringing its video-mail solution, V-Mail, to SA following its popularity in the US over the past two years, says MD of XBC, David Glen.
"It has proven very popular with companies that have strong customer service-focused strategies, especially in the automotive industry," he notes.
A typical V-Mail will be about one minute long, adds Glen.
In order to utilise the service, a business takes a contract with XBC from R350 to R500 per employee per month, depending on the number of people, plus a once-off fee of R750 per organisation.
This entitles the company members to 20 minutes of stored video per person, he explains.
"The videos are stored on CoVideo Systems servers in the US, and then streamed back to the recipient," says Glen. This eliminates bulky messages which would be the result of attaching a video file.
He expects it to be a business-to-business tool only, noting that the cost would prohibit social use, but sees its application in many industries. "Anyone who is communicating with customers on a regular basis and wants to become more professional and more personal could make use of V-Mail."
An automatic message sent back to the V-Mail sender gives feedback on how many people, and who, is viewing the video.
