GUAPTunes is now available to give music lovers control over their data use.

A new music and video app, GUAPTunes, is now available to allow South Africans to create their personal mobile music and video channel.

According to a statement, GUAPTunes enables users to choose how much data they use. GUAP is street slang referring to wealth or abundance.

To reduce music data consumption costs, the music app lets the user manipulate and select part of the video stream without affecting the quality of sound production. It also offers a personalised audio option, which lets users listen to their favourite music as an audio-only file, reads the statement.

"GUAPTunes is a hybrid between music television and YouTube, all presented on a custom-built music-focused mobile platform," says founder Jerome Pikwane.

"It puts all the awesomeness of the music industry at your fingertips, while giving you the power to actively manage your data consumption and expenses," he says.

The locally produced music app can be downloaded free from the Google Play Store. The first 20 000 downloads will receive 1GB of free data from WiFi Internet services provider, AlwaysOn.

Hayden Lamberti, MD of AlwaysOn, notes: "We hate billing surprises as much as music lovers do, and using GUAPTunes gives you the power to stay connected to your tunes at all times, while keeping control of your budget."
