SecureData Security, part of JSE-listed SecureData Holdings and the leading sub-Saharan distributor for Courion Corporation, today announced the latest version of the latter's Compliance Manager for SharePoint, the solution designed to ensure that SharePoint sites are managed according to appropriate security policies and industry best practices.
The solution helps IT administrators, security personnel and compliance auditors, concerned with effective management and control of SharePoint sites, to take the necessary steps to reduce the risk that sensitive data may be compromised by inappropriate access.
“SharePoint's widespread popularity has sent up a red flag to many IT departments that are faced with security and compliance challenges. Without a well-defined governance process, it can be difficult for IT managers to keep track of who has access to what, especially as sites proliferate,” commented Kathleen Reidy, senior analyst with the 451 Group.
Compliance Manager for SharePoint discovers SharePoint sites, enabling security personnel to verify that sites conform to industry best practices and internal security policies for protecting sensitive data against unauthorised access. The solution enables an IT administrator or other authorised individual to:
* Discover sites on SharePoint server farms;
* Review a highlighted list of SharePoint sites that are not in compliance with security policy or industry best practices;
* Drill-down into the site(s) in question to identify users and/or groups with access rights (SharePoint permissions) that may not be appropriate for the site; and
* Determine the appropriate action needed to remediate inappropriate access rights.
“Courion has been an industry leader in delivering enterprise access and compliance management solutions and believes that an identity-aware approach to managing SharePoint security is essential to effectively controlling access to sensitive data,” added Kurt Johnson, VP of corporate development at Courion. “Other products provide limited information about the user and no guidance on security issues raised by sites that are not in compliance with security policy or industry best practices. Compliance Manager for SharePoint allows security personnel to focus their attention on sites that represent the greatest security risk.”
Courion's solution identifies sites that are not in compliance with specific security policies and best practices, enabling organisations to quickly focus their attention on those sites that represent the highest security risk to the organisation. It comes with out-of-the-box security policies, which can be further customised or enhanced. Compliance Manager enables security personnel to drill down into detailed reports to identify the specific users and/or groups that are not in compliance. Using this information, the site reviewer can quickly and effectively evaluate who should have access to a specific SharePoint site, or what level of permission is appropriate.
Compliance Manager for SharePoint is an example of Access Assurance, Courion's unique approach to access and compliance management, ensuring that only the right people have the right access to the right resources and are doing the right things. Access Assurance unifies Access Governance, Access Provisioning and Access Compliance in even the most complex, heterogeneous environments. This comprehensive approach increases operational efficiency and transparency, strengthens security, and improves compliance, while delivering the industry's fastest time to value and lowest total cost of ownership.
