Visitors to the Hunter`s cider Web site can compose ringtones for their mobile phones, the developers say.
Fontera and Gloo Digital Design developed the system to provide visitors interested in the cider with an interactive experience.
According to Simon Leps, Fontera`s marketing director, the aim was to allow Hunter`s to open a one-to-one communication channel with its customer base through mobile phones and e-mail. Part of that strategy involved the delivery of various digital visuals to customers` PCs and cellphones.
Anyone with a mobile phone that can handle polyphonic ringtones can use the interactive site to generate mobile content, says Leps. The system is free and ringtone delivery takes place within 24 hours.
The specifications of the target mobile phone are automatically determined through its capabilities library, Leps says. This means the user need not know the technical specifications required to develop content that is compatible with the phone model.
"The system verifies what type of phone it is and the format and size of data it can receive," he says.
In addition to the ringtone, the site has other downloadable content such as wallpapers and video clips. The system also optimises video clips for the phone, ensuring smooth delivery, he claims.
The back-end of the facility can be customised to meet a variety of requirements. One of the planned improvements is to ensure the lyrics can be developed word for word rather than line-by-line, Leps says.
"In future, people won`t be limited to four lines."
