To give its employees fast and secure access to its host applications, credit insurance provider Credit Guarantee Insurance Corporation of Africa Limited (CGIC) uses WRQ distributor LAN Design`s Java-based Reflection for the Web host access solution.
"With about 500 workstations on our local area network, we needed an easy way to deliver customised and secure access to our host application," says CGIC project manager Rudolph Coetzer. "We had been successfully using the client/server edition of Reflection for some time, so migrating to Reflection for the Web was the natural way to go."
Although the company investigated other similar products, they found the benefits of Reflection for the Web far outweighed other market offerings. "Product information and evaluation software provided by LAN Design played a major role in our final decision," says Coetzer.
"The beauty of Reflection for Web is that it is easy to deploy and manage from a single console," he continues. "It is no longer necessary to install host applications on each individual PC - users simply log on to the network and run the application via the Web browser. This brings about substantial savings on installation time and management."
"Reflection for the Web can support 10 000 users as easily as it supports 10," says LAN Design product manager Neill Rosenthal. "Once downloaded to the workstation desktop, Reflection connects directly to the host without going back through the server. Consequently, there are no network bottlenecks, and no degraded server performance."
Additionally, Reflection for the Web`s integrated Java client and proxy server provide complete security services, including data encryption and secure server authentication. "CGIC can provide secure web-to-host access to all their users, whether they`re around the corner or around the country," adds Rosenthal. According to Coetzer, plans are on the cards to use Reflection for the Web to roll out CGIC`s host applications on the wide area network to branches in Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. "Eventually, we plan to set up a virtual office using Reflection for the Web, which will enable our users to access our application from any location in the country," he adds.
"Reflection for the Web is the first web-to-host product that enables IT administrators to easily master all the complexity of the Web, allowing them to leverage the benefits of low-cost management, integrated security, automatic green-screen rejuvenation, and high-performance remote access. Reflection for the Web makes it easy to start realising the benefits of e-business," Rosenthal concludes.
