Critical IE patch 'doesn`t work`

A patch released by Microsoft to fix a critical vulnerability in its Explorer browser does not work, according to security experts.

CNet reports that the "object type" vulnerability was discovered by eEye Security four months ago. A patch was released on 20 August, and re-released on 28 August. "The patch appears to be due for yet another re-release, because it simply doesn`t fix the vulnerability," eEye said.

Fujitsu takes new tablet for a spin

BusinessWeek reports that Fujitsu is the first company to offer both a traditional tablet computer and a convertible notebook PC, each loaded with Microsoft`s Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.

Fujitsu designed the new LifeBook T3000 convertible laptop to offer qualities of both its Stylistic line of tablets and its LifeBook notebooks, based on requests from customers in the medical and pharmaceutical industries, according to the company.

Up to 10 000 songs in your pocket

Apple now offers 20GB and 40GB varieties on its iPod digital music player, holding up to 10 000 CD-quality songs. Playing each song on the 40GB version back-to-back takes a month, the company says. It comes in an enclosure that is lighter and thinner than two CDs.

Axiz wins MS accolade

Microsoft has presented Axiz with the OEM System Builder Distributor of the Year award. The award was made at the recent annual South African Microsoft Partner Summit.

Axiz achieved 214% revenue growth, the highest for DSP sales among all Microsoft`s system builder distributor partners for the period July 2002 to June 2003.

Axim performance 'sorted`

Dell has started distributing a free CD that brings Axim X5 handhelds shipped with Windows Mobile 2003 up to speed, reports ZDNet.

The update contains software to remedy a performance glitch that affects Axim X5 models shipped with Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PC before 16 July, a company representative said.
