CS Holdings has been appointed Preferred Training Provider for Engen Petroleum Limited, a Petronas subsidiary company. Valid for one year, the contract is renewable annually and includes the provision of proprietary, desktop and technical training to Engen employees located nationwide.
Elements of the Engen group trace their origins back to 1897. Engen Limited, incorporated in the Republic of SA, is the holding company with investments in the oil and related industries. The company was originally listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) as Trek Beleggings Beperk in 1968, allowing investors to participate for the first time in an oil company.
It changed its name to Engen Limited in May 1990, following the acquisition of Mobil`s refining and marketing business in Southern Africa. The company was delisted in December 1998 when it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), the Malaysian National Oil Company. Engen Limited listed its upstream business on the JSE during March 1996, and holds a 57.5% interest in its oil and gas exploration and production subsidiary, Energy Africa Limited.
"Our trainers were specifically skilled up to deliver training on Engen`s in-house Winbranch system to managers and staff located at service stations across the country," explains Engen account manager at CS Holdings, Owen Henry. "The training consists of four-day and two-day courses for managers and staff respectively and is delivered monthly. Additional desktop and technical training is delivered on a needs basis."
"Previously, our proprietary training requirements were satisfied through various training institutions situated throughout SA, while desktop training was delivered by means of a CD-ROM-based self-learning system," relates Engen corporate training consultant Bubele Dyantyi. "This variety of delivery mechanisms made it difficult to ensure consistency in the standard and type of training delivered. Additionally, dealing with a range of training providers, each with its own set of training methodologies is particularly difficult to administrate. Consequently, we decided to appoint one accredited training provider."
CS Holdings` own national delivery point and accessibility made the company the obvious choice. "They are by no means a fly-by-night institution, and are highly regarded within the IT industry," says Dyantyi. "Additionally, their price is notably competitive.
"CS Holdings also carries out a pre-training assessment on all delegates before training commences, which we have found to be extremely valuable," he continues. "The test gives them an accurate indication of each delegate`s skills level and ensures that the delegates do not embark on a course that is either too basic or too advanced."
According to Dyantyi, Engen employees have responded positively to the training. "Not only have we had good reviews, but the fact that many employees have requested additional training clearly indicates that it is adding value to our business."
"Engen has realised that training their employees will not only enhance service delivery to its clients, but also improve profitability," Henry concludes.
