CS Holdings becomes first SA training provider for HP e-learning products

By IT Public Relations
Johannesburg, 28 Aug 2001

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has announced the appointment of JSE-listed CS Holdings` IT training division, CS Education Solutions, as its first training provider of e-learning products in SA. CS Education Solutions is one of the largest providers of high-quality, customised and accredited IT education and training solutions to corporates and end-users in Southern Africa.

Through CS Education Solutions, HP will now be able to provide enterprises with an integrated high-quality e-learning solution designed to deliver a measurable, bottom line impact. Businesses will be able to shrink the time required to develop and deliver global education while reducing costs. This offering leverages HP`s more than 25 years of experience providing global IT education solutions with Docent`s e-learning management technology.

According to HP Education Specialist Imraan Jassat, HP`s integrated learning approach offers a wide range of education services to help companies align their IT strategy with business objectives and maximise their return on their IT investments. "We are acutely aware that managing change in the new economy means investing in your people and paying every bit as much attention to them as you do to your strategy, technology, and processes."

HP e-Learning products enable organisations and training providers to deliver instructor-led online training to employees, business partners and customers in a secure setting using the HP Virtual Classroom - a powerful online classroom environment. e-Learning includes hosting a secure online classroom infrastructure, and providing content management and education-consulting services to help any business wanting to rapidly deploy customised online training.

CS Education Solutions director Robynne Erwin adds: "HP is a recognised global leader in providing state-of-the-art education and training and we are proud to be part of its e-learning strategy. For technical experience and flexibility of approach, for creative thinking and innovative education solutions, for global resources and the industry`s most extensive education portfolio, HP is the clear leader."

HP`s e-Learning-on-Tap is a pay-per-use hosted e-service that enables organisations to deliver instructor-led, online sales or product training to employees and partners inside the HP Virtual Classroom. Customers can also receive content management and education consulting services to make their training sessions more effective. The service offers a method for channel partners to collaborate online using state-of-the-art technologies from HP and its roster of partners.

"e-Learning-on-Tap eliminates all the hassles of technology implementation for online training. HP hosts and operates the entire infrastructure. And you `rent` the HP Virtual Classroom on a pay-as-you-go basis; whether it`s for a single event or periodic training - without the need to invest in people and technology to do it all yourself. HP hosts and supports the entire learning infrastructure so that your training can go as planned, without interruption," adds Jassat.

With over 260 HP and partner locations worldwide and more than 1 500 professional instructors, HP trains some 255 000 IT professionals in more than 200 product-specific courses each year. HP also trains thousands more business people who work in other functions.

CS Education Solutions, in terms of learning delivery methodologies, offers instructor-led, technology-based/e-learning, one-on-one learning, after hours training, on-site training, workshops, training in mobile units and customised training.

Erwin continues: "IT training is about people and learning and people are not commodities and do not come in cans. Thus any canned learning, like "e-learning for everyone", is to be avoided at all costs. The bottom line is that people have different needs and different learning styles, and these need to be catered for."

She adds that a training provider needs to be able to offer a solution that meets the training requirements and business needs of various industries and individuals. "In our organisation, our process includes conducting a thorough needs assessment, and then drawing up a comprehensive report that clearly identifies the learning intervention required for each employee. This often involves customising courses to suit specific business needs. Our policy is to build training partnerships with our clients and work with them to understand their business needs - rather than rigidly imposing a solution on them and their staff."
