CS Holdings consolidates information for Rani African Development

Johannesburg, 19 Jul 2001

CS Systems Integration, a division of JSE-listed CS Holdings, has implemented the ACCPAC financial back-office solution for hotel group Rani African Development (RAD).

With locations in Mozambique and Zimbabwe, and regional head offices in Gauteng, RAD was faced with the challenge of overcoming the communication barrier between its three sites.

"We develop and manage small luxury hotels in Zimbabwe and Mozambique from our head office. Our work also includes most of the accommodation reservations," says Andre Venter, project accountant at RAD.

"The obstacle hindering any solution for an integrated system between the three sites, was the lack of a good communications infrastructure. Because our operations are outside of SA`s borders, the cost of running a wide area network link was too expensive. Consequently, we decided to consolidate information between the three sites.

"After considering several other suppliers, we eventually awarded the contract to CS Systems Integration because they offered the most affordable solution," Venter continues. "Additionally, we have dealt with the company before and were more than satisfied with the service they provided."

"Running three different sites definitely presented the most cost-effective option for RAD," explains CS Systems Integration business development analyst Cornel Oberholzer. "The ACCPAC Advantage Series Enterprise Edition was the preferred solution not only because of its stable reputation and user-friendliness, but also because the Stanley Livingston hotel situated at the Victoria Falls already had an existing two-user ACCPAC system."

The ACCPAC Enterprise Edition is a complete business management solution that helps companies of every size manage not only their money, but virtually every aspect of their businesses. The modular design of the product allows businesses to tailor the applications to precisely match their needs.

CS System Integration`s first step was to upgrade the Zimbabwe system`s Financials and Fixed Assets modules to ACCPAC version 4.2. This done, a three-user ACCPAC system with Financials and Fixed Assets was installed at the RAD Gauteng offices, and at the Indigo Bay Hotel in Bazaruto Island, Mozambique.

"To further aid the consolidation of information, we mirrored the three sites` Chart of Accounts, thereby fully standardising the system," Oberholzer adds. "This practical solution fully meets the original objectives set by RAD."

"Our setup is particularly complex owing to the fact that we run multi-company, multi-currency and multi-banks," says Venter. "We need to do a consolidation of the different companies at month-end to be able to present one set of accounts in US dollars to the directors. Thanks to CS Systems Integration, we are able to capture transactions in the various local currencies and convert to rands and dollars for reporting purposes."
