JSE-listed CS Holdings has made the new Prosoft Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) certification available for the first time in South Africa to address the shortage of e-commerce-skilled IT professionals.
South Africa has been highly successful in training a new breed of IT staff. So successful, in fact, that the entry-level MCSE-type market is now flooded with eager candidates, says CS Holdings CEO Annette van der Laan.
"In the meantime, however," says Van der Laan, "the IT market has moved up a notch and the focus today is on electronic commerce and Web-enabled technologies."
Van der Laan quotes Mitchell Levy, MD of Ecnow.com, who said earlier this year: "After Y2K preparation and cleanup, e-commerce will hit the business world like a tidal wave. 2000 will see a significant increase in the number of traditional companies that extend their brands onto the Web and meld on-, and off-line marketing activities."
Gartner Group has predicted global revenues in the business-to-business e-commerce market to be worth $7,3 trillion by 2004, representing 6.9% of the global economy.
Concerns of the previous century regarding the security of the Web have largely been laid to rest by technologies developed to secure transactions and communication over the Net.
Van der Laan adds that CS Holdings foresaw the market trend towards e-commerce and ensured the ability of CS Holdings` IT Education division to meet the concomitant skills demand.
"We are integrating e-commerce-enabled business services into our methodologies to ensure consulting for business-to-business e-commerce will be provided as an integral part of our solutions."
Due to this growing market, and the need for IT professionals to become skilled and competent in e-commerce, CS Holdings has been awarded CIW Authorised Training Provider status by US-based Prosoft and has launched the CIW certification programme.
The certification is of an international standard and recognised worldwide, and is designed to skill individuals to the IT market as e-commerce specialists. There are a variety of tracks to choose from and specialise in, all focused on e-commerce and skilling the student to be work-ready from day one.
All training is done using official training material, qualified trainers and up-to-date equipment.
