CS Holdings Silicon Valley half marathon a success

By eCommunications
Johannesburg, 24 Mar 2004

Enjoyment reigned supreme on Sunday, 21 March as runners from nearby communities came in droves to participate in the annual CS Holdings Silicon Valley half marathon, held in Midrand.

Scooping first prize this year was Simon Mpholo (LNAC) clocking in at one hour, eight minutes and 19 seconds. The "first lady" to hit the finish line was Dimakatso Morobi with a time of one hour, 26 minutes and 49 seconds.

The CS Holdings Silicon Valley race is a half-marathon of 21.1km that not only accommodates runners, but also walkers including sight-impaired entrants who participate free of charge.

CS Holdings, the main sponsor, in conjunction with Midrand Country Striders, has been involved in this event for the second year running. The main aim of this half marathon is to draw together the IT Industry players within the "Silicon Valley" to participate in a joint fun-based event, demonstrating their involvement within the local community. Other sponsors include Microsoft, HP, SAP, Telkom Business, 1 Time airline, Arabella Sheraton Hotels and Imperial.

"Next year promises to be even bigger and better as the race proves to gain popularity," says Danie Greyling, events manager at CS Holdings. "The Midrand community is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity which, we believe, will form part of their year-plan for years to come."
