Computer Sciences Corporation SA has secured a multi million Rand deal to provide insurance business process outsourcing (BPO) support to CSC clients in the Americas. The contract has already begun to create new jobs in Cape Town.
The deal came into effect on April 1 and will be run out of CSC`s expanded premises at Canal Walk, Cape Town, where a back office and call center operation is in the process of being established.
This is CSC`s first offshore South African BPO contract since the leading information technology (IT) services company announced a strategy to leverage its global financial services expertise and labor force to set a new standard for high quality, low cost BPO services.
Staff in CSC`s South African operations, along with existing CSC sites in India and other locations around the world, will enable "follow the sun" processing and business continuity support for new and existing BPO clients. CSC is currently the Americas` largest insurance business process outsourcer, responsible for more than 4.5 million insurance policies and annuity / pension contracts.
"This deal shows CSC`s commitment to using the benefits of globalisation to boost the economies of developing nations," says Martin Vergunst, managing director of CSC`s operations in South Africa. "While many South African IT companies seek to expand their markets offshore, we have focused on bringing in business and expertise to build South African skills and capabilities and create employment."
Key to the deal was South Africa`s pool of English-speaking IT and business people skilled in insurance back office processing and management. Vergunst anticipates that offshore BPO for global financial services companies could bring in revenues to CSC in South Africa of R1-billion within five years and create 1 000 new jobs.
