CSC SA`s Martin Vergunst to lead global strategy in Financial Process Outsourcing

Cape Town, 25 Nov 2002

Martin Vergunst, Managing Director of Computer Sciences Corporation in South Africa, will spearhead the international IT services giant`s strategy to become the world leader in Financial Process Outsourcing (FPO). He will maintain his position as head of the South African operation and manage CSC`s FPO from Cape Town.

In announcing the appointment Vergunst says the new strategy will leverage the group`s innovation of FPO, intellectual property, industry presence and experience, global labour force, financial processing centers, IT infrastructure and best practices to establish world leadership in this market.

"Increasingly, global financial services firms are outsourcing back-office financial processing operations to a handful of strategic service providers. It will be my responsibility to pull together our global resources and work with division presidents in each region to develop a global FPO value proposition and delivery solutions."

Vergunst will form a leadership team to define strategy, co-ordinate pursuits and offerings, expedite decisions and build CSC`s capacity and readiness to serve customers.

"It is a tremendous vote of confidence that CSC has invested this responsibility in me and supports my decision to manage this crucial global strategy from South Africa. This demonstrates a commitment to the group`s involvement in the country and recognizes the tremendous skills base which can be deployed internationally along with those of the rest of the group."

The computing giant, which provides the technology behind 66 percent of the world`s top 50 insurers and one third of the world`s top 50 banks, will initially use its existing financial processing centres in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, and Nodia and Indore, India, to manage the policy processing and administration for its US and UK financial services customers which include life and pensions providers, short-term insurance and banking.

Vergunst, earned his CA from the University of Cape Town and did his articles at Coopers & Lybrand before being transferred to the UK where he later joined Continuum, a US-based vendor of insurance applications, becoming its European Finance Director. He joined CSC when Continuum was acquired by the group.

He was CSC`s European Finance Director when he was tasked with launching CSC`s operation in South Africa in 1999.
