Computer Sciences Corporation`s internationally ranked Team CSC cycling team has placed first in the Team Competition, winning the yellow jersey as a team for the 2003 Tour de France. Team CSC, sponsored by one of the world`s leading information technology (IT) services companies, CSC, conquered the 100th anniversary of the world`s most legendary cycling challenge.
American cycling superstar, Tyler Hamilton, has become a legend in this year`s competition, as he overcame serious injuries sustained in a 35-cyclist crash during the first stage of the race. Despite a broken collarbone, Hamilton pursued the race with determination, winning the 16th stage in Bayonne and finishing in fourth place. A resilient rider, Hamilton previously finished second in the 2002 Giro d`Italia cycling competition with a broken shoulder. He placed 15th at last year`s Tour de France.
Besides Hamilton, Team CSC brought to the race a winning mix of eight other champion cyclists from around the world who contributed to the team`s success, including Michael Blaudzun, Bekim Christensen, Nicolas Jalabert, Peter Luttenberger, Andrea Peron, Jakob Piil, Carlos Sastre Candil and Nicki Sorenson. In particular, Piil won the 10th stage in Marseille, Sastre won the 13th stage in Toulouse and finished the tour in ninth place, and Luttenberger finished in 13th place.
Embracing CSC`s core business values of innovation and technical excellence, Team CSC consistently exhibits the quality and professionalism that has typified the IT services giant for more than 40 years. To celebrate its commitment to high performance, and initiate a more aggressive global branding effort to bring the CSC name and reputation to clients, prospects and business audiences around the world, CSC began its sponsorship of Team CSC in 2001. Since then, Team CSC has become one of the top 10 cycling teams in the world, competing in hundreds of races, including the renowned Liege-Bastogne-Liege and Giro d`Italia.
