Midrand-based Computer Storage Services Incorporated (CSSI) Africa has been awarded an R84m distribution and manufacturing agreement with CipherWave Technologies in the USA.
CSSI has secured the rights for distribution of the Cipher -NAS (Network-Attached Storage) devices for the whole of Africa. "We will also be sharing drive technologies with CipherWave so, under the guidance of CipherWave Technologies, we will set up a manufacturing facility in Midrand in the next six months," says James Grcic, CSSI Africa MD. "This also means that we will be able to export our products to the rest of Africa," he says.
CSSI Africa will further train staff to provide all the necessary sales and technical support locally. "However," says Grcic, "the NAS Servers are self-monitoring so if a storage or hardware-related error occurs they will be able to diagnose the problem and send notification to a designated administrator." Both CSSI and CipherWave have identified an opportunity to reclaim a certain amount of market share.
"The recent withdrawal of Maxtor as a storage solution provider with the MaxAttach range of NAS servers has left an opportunity in SA to distribute a solution, which has a capacity entrance point of 320GB to 2,5TB," Grcic says.
CSSI`s initial market research has shown favourable growth and opportunities in the network-attached storage market. "From the tests carried out by potential clients during the past six weeks, we have achieved good results with the CipherNAS. These have been compared favourably with other high performance NAS Servers," Grcic concludes. Related Articles
