The Crux Computer Training Institute (CTI), a subsidiary of JSE-listed Crux Technologies, has launched its online initiative, CTI Online, an extension of the institute`s nine traditional campuses.
CTI is offering its "Comprehensive Programming Diploma" over the Internet. The modules are computer- and Web-based, and instant registration is conducted online as is payment for the course.
Students have to complete various practical assignments in order to qualify for the diploma. Self-assessment follows every module in the form of an online exam that needs to be passed in order to progress to the next module.
At three predetermined stages within the course, the student is required to write an exam at a testing centre or any of the nine CTI campuses.
According to Michiel Barnard, executive director at the training division of Crux Technologies, the company decided a year ago to enter the e-training market. He says that although the company has little online experience, it has been in the training market for a number of years.
The company has identified three new marketplaces - the significant portion of people who want to make use of the CTI campuses but have difficulty in getting to the locations, the international marketplace and franchising opportunities.
Besides the convenient and cost-effective nature of the Internet, Barnard says CTI Online can provide the kind of support students gain at traditional campuses and quick response to questions via e-mail. CTI Online, he says, currently promises response within two hours but the target is 10 minutes.
"CTI Online combines cutting-edge course materials with the flexibility, convenience and ease of the Internet," says Sharene Menteath, principal of CTI Online. "The modular programming diploma course allows the students to work at their own pace and in the comfort of their own home. A wide theoretical base of knowledge is complemented by practical interactive exercises through this self-paced study methodology."
