CUASA holds EC Act workshop

The Communication Users Association of SA (CUASA) will host a workshop outlining the implications of the Electronic Communications (EC) Act on Friday morning.

The two-and-a-half-hour workshop is to be held at the premises of Verizon Business, in Gallo Manor, Johannesburg.

Participation is free, and all stakeholders who interact with the EC Act and need clarity on the matter are welcome to attend, the organisation says.

Guest speaker Justine White, a director of Mkhabela, Huntley and Adekeye, will discuss key components of the EC Act, as well answer questions from the floor.

CUASA recognises that there is a perceived uncertainty on the scope and implications of the EC Act, says spokesman Ray Webber.

"There is a lot of confusion in the market and industry regarding the licence conversion process, what licences are required to provide what services and what one can do under a private electronic communications network licence," says Webber.

There are also questions regarding self-provisioning of physical and/or infrastructure, as well as legislative guidance on licence costs, he says.
