Current financial constraints not a deterrent for strategic business decisions

Johannesburg, 05 Mar 2009

“With the growth this province has shown over the past five years, and the opportunities that are continuously presenting itself in the ICT sector, companies should, despite challenging financial constraints, still focus on strategies to increase their return on investment,” said Harry Chakhala, CEO of Computek, at a function held in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga last week.

Chakhala said that since the Mpumalanga Province is growing at rapid rate, it is important to look at the growth of the province and the ambition it holds for ICT.

“It is vital to understand the business development strategic issues, and to address it appropriately. Different sectors have different objectives, and as far as the public sector is concerned, appropriate use and application of ICT will enhance and improve service delivery in the province,” Chakhala said.

He was referring to satellite connectivity for the public sector, which can be utilised to improve communication in remote areas between the different government departments. Computek has a fully deployed an available Satellite VMesh network connected to the Government Common Core Network (GCCN) for two of its government clients. The connectivity involves deployment of a 3.8m dish at SITA Centurion, and a number of on 2.4 metre dish sizes on the remote sites in all the provinces.

Differ Mogale, 2010 FIFA World Cup co-ordinator for Mombela Municipality in Mpumalanga, and guest of honour at Computek's function, stated that approximately 60% of tourists coming to the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup will be visiting the Mpumalanga Province as part of their journey to South Africa. He said the 2010 Fifa World Cup soccer has brought major skills development opportunities to the province, which may lead to permanent jobs or even individuals starting their own businesses based on needs of tourists visiting the province. Mogale further said the World Cup will bring foreign investment to the province, and apart from economic growth and development, it will lead to the delivery of improved services by all municipalities in the Mpumalanga Province.

In line with improved service delivery, Chakhala said Computek, in partnership with SAS, is able to address and solve the service delivery areas currently experienced in municipalities within the greater Mpumalanga Province.

Computek has opened its office in Nelspruit as part of its strategy to deliver a national ICT service in the country. The company was established 10 years ago, with its head office in Midrand, and now has offices in all major provinces in South Africa. It is committed to assisting the public and private sector in increasing its return on investment, implementing and maintaining world-class ICT solutions.
