Customisable business solutions from Lotus

Noting the demand for a flexible business-to-business or business-to-consumer electronic commerce (e-commerce) solution, Lotus Development has released its Domino.Merchant 2.0 Server Pack for small but growing organisations. Driven by the Lotus Domino 4.6 server, the pack offers a template-driven means of creating and managing Web sites. It does so by using the SiteCreator 2 which eliminates the need for HTML programming experience. Oscar Rozario, technical sales manager at Lotus Development SA, says Domino provides a single infrastructure for messaging, collaboration and Internet application development. This enables an e-commerce system to be integrated with other workflow applications that support commercial activities such as manufacturing, shipping, invoicing and billing. "This means users will save time and money otherwise spent trying to integrate an e-commerce application to an existing infrastructure. "New design capabilities include support for frames and new looks and layouts, as well as the creation of an image library to include graphics on all pages of a Web site," says Rozario. E-commerce is what the new package is all about and Lotus has gone out of its way to provide non-technical users with a series of application templates, designed to help businesses enhance Web sites with integrated Internet and intranet applications. "These include storefront, order processing, store registration, product catalogue, customer tracking, contact management, career opportunities, FAQs and project management," says Rozario. Built-in content approval capabilities ensure that no page is posted without passing through a designated approval cycle, promoting better Web page accuracy and consistency while enabling line-of-business groups to post new content themselves. The pack`s EDI support facilitates data sharing and market analysis via Market Data Systems` ecCENTRIC EDI product, which generates EDI forms based on order information stored in Domino databases.
