Communication Workers Union (CWU) head of communications Mfanafuthi Sithebe has resigned from his post with effect from 1 October. Sithebe will serve a three-month notice period, ending on 7 December.
Sithebe says he does not have any immediate plans, other than wanting to join the corporate sector.
"It was high time for me to leave. I`ve been with CWU for nine years and reached a ceiling in terms of union operations," he says.
CWU appointed Sithebe as head of communications in October 2004. He joined the union in 1999, following stints at university studying law and local government administration.
He worked his way up the ranks from the position of provincial organiser, provincial secretary (KwaZulu-Natal) and national telecommunications coordinator.
He adds that he would like to stretch his capabilities, and could not do so while working for the union unless he was willing to "go at loggerheads with the union leaders".
Sithebe is studying for a communications degree with the University of SA.
