Cyberoam has appointed Mark Ivor Roberts as channel manager for Western Cape region.

According to Cyberoam, Roberts will lead the company's focused efforts to grow its channel business in the Western Cape by strengthening the channel through better engagement with existing and new partners.

Roberts says in his new position he will support the company's objective of growing revenue and market share in the South African market by driving business through its channel partners.

His immediate priority is channel development and helping build the partner network in the region. Roberts' long term goal is to increase Cyberoam's footprint in the region and make its products the most preferred solutions for partners and customers.

"One of my key responsibilities will be to strengthen relationships with existing partners by equipping them with the right resources, training them to secure more organisations with Cyberoam's network security appliances.

"I will also be responsible for increasing our partners in the region, in line with our growth objectives."

Roberts plans on increasing brand by strengthening existing partner relationships, growing Cyberoam's partner base as well as planning and executing targeted marketing campaigns.

Also, he will continue to invest in events, exhibitions, training, partner programmes, promotional offers and a variety of activities to spread security awareness in the region.

Roberts believes the business environment across SA is ripe for growth in demand of IT security solutions.

South African businesses and institutes are taking cyber security seriously and beginning to realise the importance of keeping their network perimeter safe, he adds.

Research firm IDC says the South African security appliances market is expected to reach $56.7 million by 2018.

"My role will be to ensure Cyberoam's security products become the first choice of businesses looking to secure their networks. The focus will be on growing the company's market share in the region."

According to Alkesh Soneji, business head at Cyberoam Africa, Roberts brings a strong and incisive market expertise and channel experience to the table.

"He will play a very important role in ensuring Cyberoam is able to grab a huge chunk of the IT security solutions market share in South Africa. His appointment illustrates our commitment towards partner growth and providing them with all the support needed to help our customers in the region."

One of the biggest challenges faced by South African organisations when it comes to network security is that the attacks are becoming more sophisticated, targeted and synchronised, says Roberts.

He notes companies can no longer take the security of their networks lightly as their network perimeters are on the crosshairs of cyber attackers.

It is high time organisations make security a priority and take proactive steps to secure their networks, adds Roberts.
