Cyclades introducing low cost remote access server

Johannesburg, 01 Mar 2000

Cyclades Corporation introduces the new member of the Cyclades Power Router Family, the Cyclades-PR4000. It is a powerful, stand-alone Remote Access Server that allows Service Providers and Enterprise Managers to terminate both analog and calls and provide network access to remote offices, telecommuters, and home users.

The PR4000 connects to the LAN using an auto-sensing 10/100BT Ethernet interface and terminate one or two T1/E1 or ISDN PRI lines. With built-in digital modems and CSU functionality, it provides a high-level of integration and reliability and minimizes the need for external cabling and equipment.

By combining the latest hardware and software technology, the PR4000 can provide an extremely compact and flexible solution at a cost substantially lower than the competition. Those characteristics are very important in the competitive ISP market, where cost and rack-space are always important factors. Other product differentials include built-in secondary Ethernet port (to support multiple LANs), optional Serial WAN port (for combined RAS and Router functionality in one box) and 100% downloadable modem software. The powerful hardware eliminates performance bottlenecks found in other products. The PR4000 is equipped with a PowerPC CPU in dual-processor architecture (MPC860T) that provides processing power to serve all calls with high performance and maximum throughput.

Incorporating all the features of CyROS, a proven internetworking operating system, and with secondary Ethernet LAN port and optional serial WAN port, the PR4000 provides combined multi-protocol routing functionality with support for RIP, OSPF and BGP4 routing protocols.

A full-featured remote access server, the PR4000 provides advanced security, management features, and transparent interoperability with your current network. The exceptional Cyclades service and support complete the package to make the Cyclades-PR4000 the ideal solution for your remote access needs.

Applications and Benefits Internet Service Providers and Enterprise Network Managers use the Cyclades-PR4000 to provide telecommuters, home-users and mobile users with transparent Internet or Corporate LAN access. The high-level of integration allows the Cyclades-PR4000 to replace servers, modem banks, DSU/CSU, router, and extra cabling in traditional remote access installations. The PR4000 can actually be an ISP POP (point-of-presence) in a box. This gives not only dramatic equipment cost savings, but also reduces recurrent management and communication costs. By supporting both analog (V.90, K56flex and older modem standards) and digital (ISDN) calls in one box and at one phone number, the PR4000 provides a easy and clean migration path from today`s mostly analog access environment to the fast-growing digital market.
