D-Link Green scores at laptop awards

D-Link Green Technology was lauded for its green features at this year's Laptop Magazine Mobile Innovation Awards, states MSNBC.

The competition recognises breakthroughs in the design and functionality of mobile technology products and services. This year, the judges singled out D-Link Green's energy-saving features added to the company's 802.11n routers.

One of D-Link Green's many energy-saving features that sparked the judges' decision was the unique scheduling that allows D-Link's new 802.11n routers to reduce energy consumption when not in use, whether it be WiFi or Ethernet connectivity.

Gaming goes green

Analysts believe today's gaming machines are 40% more energy efficient than those of a decade ago, reports Business Spectator.

A review by BMM Australia states recent energy efficiency initiatives include new-generation screens, more efficient lighting and the latest in switch mode power supply devices.

The review goes on to explain gaming machines manufactured today consume around 250 watts of power, while those manufactured a decade ago consumed typically around 400 watts of power. This demonstrates that manufacturers have improved the energy efficiency of gaming machines.

FPDs embrace green features

In 2008, 20% of flat panel displays (FPDs) shipments had green features and this share will reach 70% by 2012 and dominate the market by 2014, says CIOL.

DisplaySearch's new report on green FPDs defines green displays as those that use environmentally friendly components and materials, are compliant with environmental such as waste disposal and use production processes that reduce energy and materials consumed among other criteria.

The independent research firm says 2009 will be the year of green implementation, and panels and end products will focus on green promotion in 2010. Green FPD penetration will pass 50% in 2011 and then achieve 100% in 2014.
