D-Link signs distribution agreement with OTG

Johannesburg, 03 Mar 1999

D-Link has signed a distribution agreement with One Technology Group (OTG). This follows D-Link`s recent decision not to grant sole distribution rights to Siltek Distribution Dynamics.

D-Link country manager, Bertus Möller says OTG is totally committed to distributing D-Link products in southern Africa. "Not only has OTG given me its full commitment, it has also indicated that several staff will undergo product training in the near future."

"Our main focus is service and I strongly believe the only way any distributor can really add value is by training its staff in the products it distributes. Ultimately, everybody benefits from the more focussed distributors who are potentially closer to the product than the broad-based ones," says Möller.

"Furthermore, we only deal with companies who are financially stable and who we are proud to be associated with. OTG came highly recommended and I am confident that we will have a long and mutually rewarding relationship," adds Möller.

Gary Smith, operations director for Softline Holdings says, "We are extremely excited to have been awarded the D-link distribution. D-link requires an aggressive partner to establish the company as a leading network distributor in SA and is prepared, together with us, to invest into awareness activities to make people aware of its broad range and quality standards. We, together with D-link, hope to establish the brand in SA to the extent as it has been done in Europe and America."

"The benefit to our resellers is the semi-exclusivity they will have. Never mind the product, we are planning seminars and training to help our dealers understand and successfully introduce the product to their clients. Although networking product is not an exclusive issue, I believe our aggression in awareness, assistance and extremely competitive pricing will create a niche for our resellers which will give them a unique edge," adds Smith.

"Together, we are extremely excited by the challenge of gaining market share. Our competitors` have enjoyed a ten year advantage in the local market. Although we do not expect overnight success, I believe taking market share away from our competitors will be immediate and hope to enjoy a 10-15% market share in the networling market within the first year," concludes Smith.

Möller says he is currently negotiating with other South African and southern African distributors and more appointments will follow soon. "We have always maintained a very strong relationship with our channel and we have worked very closely with our distribution partners to develop the South African reseller base."

"OTG`s appointment endorses D-Link`s commitment to the distribution model and once OTG is an established distributor, D-Link will be in a better position to focus more closely on new distributors," concludes Möller.
