D-Link unveils USB print servers for easy, affordable way to share printers or multifunction equipment over network

Stylish, compact devices allow multiple users to send documents directly from PC for printing; shared fax and scan functions supported

Johannesburg, 20 May 2009

D-Link, the end-to-end computer networking solutions provider for consumer and business, today unveiled a series of versatile USB print servers that support scan, fax and print functions to provide an easy and cost-effective way to share a printer over the network.

Now shipping is the D-Link USB Multifunction Print Server (DPR-1020) - a wired version with one USB port.

Scheduled to ship later in the year are the D-Link Wireless G Multifunction Print Server (DPR-1040) - a wireless model with one USB port and Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button and the D-Link Multi-Port Wireless G Multifunction Print Server (DPR-2000) - a wireless model with four USB ports and integrated WPS function.

Ideal for office, home, school or business, the D-Link DPR series multifunction print servers provide users with the ability to share their printer on a network and offer print and scan compatibility for those who are using multifunction equipment.

Sleek and compact in design, the print servers allow multiple users to directly send out documents from their PC for printing and fax transmissions. They support sharing of printer and multifunction equipment printing, faxing and scanning functions with other users on the network.

"In a shared environment, these print servers offer an easy and convenient way for multiple users to access printers and equipment across a wired or wireless network," said Francois Scheun, D-Link South Africa technical engineer and print server specialist. "They offer superior performance to software-based print servers, and at a fraction of the cost."

The D-Link print servers are equipped with a powerful CPU, large memory, high-speed USB 2.0 port(s) and are capable of up to 100Mbps network data transfer. Other flexible security features allow the administrator to configure users' access rights directly to the printer. Network operating systems supported include Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista, Apple MacOS with AppleTalk, Linux, and Unix.

The DPR print server series support Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), enabling remote users to output files to their office printer even when away from the office. The devices also provide network administrators with critical information about the network printer so printer operations can be monitored in a timely manner.

Price and availability

The D-Link DPR-1020 is available through D-Link's network of value-added resellers, solution providers and distributors for the manufacturer's suggested retail price of R849. The DPR-1040 and DPR-2000 will be available from early Q3 2009.
