The Dakar rally, acknowledged as one of the toughest sporting events in the world, starts in Mar del Plata, in Argentina, on 1 January 2012, with two new challengers in the field. They are the all-South African team entries of Giniel de Villiers - a past winner - and Duncan Vos. They will be driving two specially prepared Toyota Hilux Double Cab off-road racers.
Among the team's impressive list of sponsors is Duxbury Networking - a leading South African distributor of networking solutions - which has partnered with Netgear, an organisation supplying wireless, storage, security and switching connectivity products for companies of all sizes.
CEO Graham Duxbury is a former champion racing driver and winner of the prestigious Daytona 24-hour sports car race in the USA, in 1984, driving for an all-South African team.
Duxbury decided to throw the weight of his company behind the efforts of the Imperial Toyota SA team and its bid to tackle the Dakar 2012, to be held in South America for the fourth successive year.
“With an emphasis on success through excellent teamwork, networking and flawless communications, the event is the ideal showcase for Duxbury Networking and Netgear as we share the similar goals,” says Duxbury.
“Netgear products are designed to offer high performance and exceptional reliability, two of the most important attributes required of any successful Dakar competitor. The synergy between our objectives could not be clearer.”
Against this backdrop, Duxbury will be flying the 'Duxbury-Netgear' flag at the Dakar 2012. The logo will be proudly emblazoned on the Toyotas as they cover more than 9 000 kilometres over some of the harshest terrain, including the notorious Atacama Desert and Andes mountains.
