Dana Corporation successfully manages global software licence compliance

Belarc, Inc announced today that Dana Corporation, a Fortune 200 company, has successfully used Belarc`s BelManage system for over a year to manage its software licences across its global network of IT assets.

"Dana has IT assets in almost 40 countries and currently has over 21 000 desktops, servers and laptops," said Steve Hoffmann, Senior Manager Business Systems Development, Asset Management Group, Dana Corp. "We use BelManage to implement our global software licence control. It is particularly useful in our Microsoft compliance initiative, where we can track the correct product suites and not just count the applications which may have been installed by other products."

"We also use BelManage on a global basis to help us insure that our hardware assets conform to corporate standards," said Brian Heldt, Senior Manager Lease Finance and Operations, Dana Corp. "For our divestiture program, we know exactly what hardware and software assets we are transferring to the new owners.

"BelManage`s open SQL database has also allowed us to easily integrate it with our Diamond Source program, where we automatically match the purchase information we receive from our vendors with the deployed asset information we get from BelManage," said Heldt. "This along with other Diamond Source features gives us nearly automatic lifecycle management of our IT assets."

"Dana deployed their system in only a few months time and manages it with a very small staff. Dana`s environment is typical of large enterprises, where their IT assets are located throughout the world. BelManage is ideal for this type of environment because it uses only one server and does not require ongoing local administrator effort. Also, the onerous job of "doing an audit" has disappeared from Dana`s task list, because the information in BelManage is automatically updated daily and is always current."
