Danger, danger everywhere!

Johannesburg, 03 Aug 2005

It has been said that SA must be the toughest place to own a computer. Not only do we have to contend with a higher than normal rate of computer theft but to top this we have power surges, power cuts and the "biggie", violent lightning storms.

On average, Gauteng experiences electrical storms 78 days per year with Natal coming in at 38 and the Cape at 16. In fact the greater Johannesburg area has become one of the world`s recognised "hotspots" for lightning addicts looking to photograph the perfect storm.

Lightning is not the only worry that IT users have to contend with. During the past five years SA has experienced a marked increase in power surges and power cuts. Work is being done to upgrade our substations and service supply but cable theft and increased demand especially during the winter months will see that interruptions to the power supply will continue to hamper the end-user.

it4africa has recently tied up a major South African distribution deal for the Unitek range of UPS systems. The systems are all designed to offer customers autonomy from 15 minutes to 25 minutes depending on the model purchased. Autonomy is backed up by a 120 000 euro insurance on connected appliances and each unit comes with the relevant cables.

The models as pictured will be available in the market

Said Kobus Kitshof, it4africa, Divisional Manager, RSA Hardware: "it4africa will continue with our indirect channel to market strategy by supporting our dealers with unbeatable pricing on the range of Unitek UPS systems. Unitek offers a fully branded range of UPSs to compete directly against the other big names in the industry, but priced aggressively enough to compete. To add value, Unitek only supplies online and inline UPS systems which ensures continuous backup time for the end-user."
