Data Pro, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and network integrator within the JSE-listed Control Instruments group focusing on emerging corporates, has announced the launch of its dual ISP service, a service that allows companies to make use of two ISPs "without any disruption", thereby increasing redundancy, increasing throughput and speed.
Data Pro - a first tier ISP - is believed to be the first ISP in SA to provide this service.
According to Douglas Reed, managing director of Data Pro, even if a company is dissatisfied with its ISP it is usually reluctant to switch allegiances because of the "risk and disruption that can follow".
"Thanks to new technology, which we have sourced and added to our basket of solutions, we are now able to offer companies the opportunity to make use of two ISPs. This is totally transparent to the company`s clients. The benefits are huge - especially for LARGE corporates with large bandwidth requirements. If one ISP suffers downtime for instance, the company is not affected at all because their system will automatically make use of the connections and bandwidth provided by their second ISP. Besides giving companies greater throughout and speeds, it gives them access to almost unlimited local bandwidth."
Reed said the new dual ISP services offering is expected to have a "material affect" on the company`s earnings for the year ended February 2002.
