Data Pro, the leading Internet Service Provider (ISP) and network integrator - part of the JSE-listed Control Instruments group - has invested more than R500 000 in upgrading its network redundancy following the installation of additional exit lines in Cape Town.
The move is expected to guarantee client uptime and improve overall customer service - including speed - particularly in the Cape Town area.
"Even with multiple lines linked to the Internet, plus redundant lines at certain points, we felt we needed even more due to the fact that our client base continues to grow steadily," said Douglas Reed, managing director of Data Pro. "We were concerned about the disruption if one of our upstream lines had to fail and so we created extra connections to the Internet. With this additional redundancy planning, if our Johannesburg network goes down, for instance, we are able to gain access via Cape Town. This means we have further reduced the chances of downtime."
Reed said that in terms of "traffic shaping", the network improvements will result in an improved flow in the Cape Town area. "Cape Town clients now enter and exit via the Cape Town linkage and not via Johannesburg, which is naturally more convoluted."
He said investments in the company`s network capacity have been "ongoing".
Data Pro focuses on the SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) marketplace.
