CSSI Africa (Pty) Ltd (Computer Storage Services Africa) has released the latest in data recovery technology. CSSI had acquired expertise and consulted with the leading data storage engineers from Fujitsu, IBM, Maxtor and Seagate who had collaborated with CSSI on the new development of a leading data recovery technology platform.
Over the past seven months, CSSI has pooled resources with these professionals and has finally delivered a breakthrough technological system. This will allow recovery of data from previously unrecoverable drives due to bad recalibration (drives that made `clicking` sounds) and on corrupted or destroyed media.
James Grcic, Managing Director of CSSI Africa (Pty) Ltd, says: "The ability to go into drives at a manufacturing level, and reconfigure device specifications and mode (MSEL/MSEN) configuration pages, allow us to recover nearly every drive that is sent through for recovery."
The technology has been adapted to recover SCSI, IDE, notebook and SATA hard disk drives. Not only can hard disk media be recovered, but also, all forms of tape drive media, memory sticks, digital camera memory cards and other emerging storage technologies.
As published in the Financial Mail, 3 April edition, CSSI now has a footing as one of the best global data recovery and forensic companies. In SA, the company`s primary focus was to deliver data recovery technology to both end-users and corporate entities. Historical information indicates that CSSI recovers data within the price range of R580 and R5 800 per recovery. In circumstances whereby laser technology and/ or clean-room engineering is required, the costs can escalate significantly. Additionally, all information and data recoveries are treated as strictly confidential and clients may request non-disclosure agreements and/ or secrecy oaths.
In the past four years, CSSI has been transparent and welcomes all its clients to visit its facility and see the set-up and technology in operation. Melinda Maich, Marketing Manager of CSSI Africa, states: "From our observation and customer feedback, it is clear that competitors are reluctant to display their data recovery operations. This may be due to the fact that these individuals are utilising generic software, putting valuable data at risk, as there is no need to hide one`s capabilities in this industry."
Statistics released regarding data loss indicate the following:
* 38% is due to human error
* 20% due to hardware failure
* 5% due to software failure
* 12% due to power failure/ surges
* 10% due to viruses
* 7% due to theft and sabotage in SA
(Statistics from Quantum End-User Research - 2004)
Jaco Engelbrecht, certified DR Engineer, who heads this department, and is certified by the US head office in California, says: "The new technology development and data recovery ability of the new systems have tremendous potential and has led to almost 100% success in recovering valuable data. Previously, the success rate was around 85%. The access to `Blue Laser Technology` and `Clean-Rooms` allow recovery of almost any data should the customer approve."
The company`s growth in market share is driven by its policy of free evaluations and no quote rejection fees.
Due to strong exchange rates, the technology development and research was completed at below budget. Management has of today decided to use this budget savings to rebate data recoveries for the next four to six weeks.
Customers requiring data recovery should contact CSSI offices in Johannesburg for further information and to benefit from the rebate offer. Telephone (011) 314 0294, or visit CSSI Web site on www.cssi.co.za.
