It is crucial that a company's data is always safe and available, according to StorVault.
The company is of the view that all organisation - small, medium and large - face daily data storage challenges, from managing explosive data growth, complying with regulations, and protecting systems and sites from disaster.
Martin Kuhlmann, StorVault country manager, says it's crucial to getback-up and recovery solutions to enable businesses to protect critical data and meet recovery objectives.
“The days of needing to restore data from multiple incremental back-ups are long gone,” he says. Back-ups need to be rebuilt dynamically across multiple operating systems and platforms, he adds.
He also points out that there are a number of key considerations for customers to evaluate before deciding on a backup and recovery solution.
First, Kuhlmann says end-to-end data security is vital. “Data should be encrypted before and during transmission and should remain encrypted while in storage.”
It is also important to have a centralised Web-based management system, he suggests. “Being able to manage and monitor back-ups through a secure and centralised interface, and accessible from anywhere via a Web browser.”
This is an ideal aspect for simple data protection across networks and remote offices, he adds.
According to Kuhlmann, data is mirrored and backed up to a secure location for complete offsite protection against site disasters. Businesses should get offsite protection, he advises.
Businesses, especially small ones, should not shy away from broad platform support, he notes. “Data protection is unified in a single solution working across virtually every combination of platforms and applications.”
The chosen back-up and recovery solution should include bare metal recovery, back-up data replication, near continuous data protection and remote disaster recovery, Kuhlmann advises.
