Informix`s database engine designed for warehousing has undergone enhancements to focus on industry-specific needs. Red Brick Decision Server 6.1 will offer compatibility with Linux, and support for JDBC 2.0 and ODBC 3.5.

Designed for both Web and conventional decision support environments, the system promises to deliver faster query response through automatic maintenance of aggregate tables. Aggregate computation and management is also provided through Red Brick Vista aggregate management system.

Extensions have been added to the Parallel Table Management Utility to enable faster loading of data with less data preparation. Sampling for accelerated data analysis provides the ability to produce approximate results based on sampled sets of data, which is especially useful for applications such as data mining.

Informix supports Linux after it recognised the open source operating system as the fastest growing server operating system. The software vendor also notes that the platform appeals to traditional Unix data centres due to its stability and robustness.

Support for Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) 2.0 will allow users to access information from their installed databases even if the information is stored on different database management systems.

The previous version of Red Brick Decision Server supported JDBC 1.0. Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) 3.5 support will enable a single application to access different database management systems with no modifications to its source code. Previous support was for ODBC 2.0.
