Datacentrix/ Novell to strengthen SA partnership

By Datacentrix Holdings
Johannesburg, 22 Sept 1999

JSE-listed Datacentrix has renewed its partnership agreement with Novell, as part of an initiative to focus its efforts on directory-enabled solutions which are becoming increasingly critical to networks in organisations of every kind and size.

Datacentrix director, Klaas Lammers says: "In the high Information technology arena, marketplace success is a product of focus, clear thinking, determination and competent execution.

"It is also a product of empowerment initiatives and effective human resource management, equally matched - for players in the reseller channel - by the need to build even stronger relationships with suppliers and customers.

"Datacentrix is acknowledged as one of Novell`s largest accredited business partner in South Africa and we are pleased to reinforce our commitment to the platform."

Lammers sees a strong future for Novell in South Africa: "Most corporates are still using Novell as their core operating system, for file and print, and now, for directory services.

"While many organisations have opted for the Microsoft application server platforms, Novell is still the logical "glue" to put these technologies together and them in a secure way via NDS [Novell Directory Services].

"NDS is also a excellent tool to manage Microsoft NT domains. Novell`s success lies in the fact that it has embraced NT as one of the leading technologies, and focuses on integrating it seamlessly into the Novell framework."

Lammers added that there are certain cases were a pure Microsoft solution makes sense. But in larger organisations where there is a substantial base of dissimilar platforms and distributed server applications, Novell is the winner in terms of reliability, ease of management and reducing the total cost of ownership.

Commenting on Datacentrix`s position in the local marketplace, Novell managing director Richard Beytagh says Novell`s Business Expert programme requires total commitment from integrators such as Datacentrix, and adds that they must have a proven level of skills in Novell solutions.

"We work in close co-operation with Datacentrix to identify and leverage sales and services opportunities. Because of its exceptionally high level of commitment, Datacentrix enjoys a close partnership with Novell and we provide them with a wide range of other benefits.

"Novell`s commitment is to business development with the channel and its wide range of products offers each partner the opportunity to be recognised as a major player in a preferred solutions area. Novell has set the standard in the industry for more than 15 years, we are widely recognised as a channel innovator and we constantly strive to enhance our partner program to keep up with the dynamics of our industry."

He adds that today`s technology is delivering business and technical solutions in a tenth of the time and cost compared to 10-15 years ago. "These solutions work and have the ability to make companies cost efficient and more competitive. They could in fact, make the difference between success or failure.

"With the recent onslaught of directory-enabled products, there are endless opportunities for new business. Novell is committed to providing an effective network management solution to businesses with mixed network environments. We want to ensure that our customers can easily deploy and manage all their software products and applications," concludes Beytagh.
