In a ground breaking move for the South African channel, JSE-listed Datacentrix has become the first local Hewlett Packard (HP) reseller to negotiate a direct partnership agreement with HP.
The move comes in the wake of the first major restructuring of the HP SA supply channel since the electronics and computer giant re-entered the local market on 1 November 1997.
HP SA - a wholly owned subsidiary of HP Europe - has revised its channel strategy to includes a direct partner component. This is earmarked for resellers targeting the large corporate and government sectors.
"This strategy has been put in place to handle large volume business," says Darryl Brick, corporate channel manager HP South Africa. "This model exists in all countries where HP is present.
"It also represents a strengthening of HP`s commitment to the channel structure, which, we believe, channel adds significant value to our business both in South Africa and globally.
"Datacentrix has been HP`s largest corporate reseller for a number of years and the company`s appointment gives HP a vehicle to target new business in South Africa and allows for tremendous penetration into previously untapped markets in South Africa," says Brick.
The agreement covers the supply of most categories of HP products including Servers, networking, PCs, notebooks, printers and peripheral devices.
Commenting on the benefits of the deal, Datacentrix`s sales and marketing director, Klaas Lammers says it facilitates a closer relationship with HP and direct access to HP`s marketing and promotions expertise.
"Importantly, it will give us a keener pricing structure and a shorter supply chain.
The appointment represents a significant investment in Datacentrix and demonstrates HP`s commitment to our company,`" he adds.
