DataPro buys BizCall

Johannesburg, 08 Mar 2006

AltX-listed service provider (ISP) and telecommunications company DataPro has acquired open source PABX and call centre vendor BizCall.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

BizCall, established by Michael Toop and Steve Briggs, has been designing, building and implementing open source solutions since June last year.

It focuses on using open source software to provide voice and services.

BizCall is a comfortable strategic fit for the group, says DataPro financial director Sandy Wentzel.

"The company specialises in VOIP [voice over Internet Protocol] telephony solutions, focusing mainly on the emerging corporate market, and is a perfect additional service we will be able to offer our customer base.

"This move complements our existing range of converged telecommunication services."

DataPro, whose business is structured across two main lines - the ISP and voice - has said it is positioning itself to be an alternative telecommunications company, providing mainstream voice and Internet services.

BizCall, which uses a Linux-based open source telephony protocol, is to remain intact and trade under its existing name.
