DataPro, part of the AltX-listed DataPro Group, has announced it will offer a "local-only" ADSL solution to the South African market.
Simon Butler, ADSL Product Manager at DataPro, commented: "This is a unique offering enabling users to use local traffic only which will dramatically reduce bandwidth costs and optimise online spend.
"This is such an exciting development for the ADSL market as I truly believe that offerings such as this will spur the uptake of ADSL. Although we are still not reaping the true benefits of broadband, we are certainly progressing to more cost-effective offerings."
The solution will be priced initially at around R30 GB which is less than half the price of current full access offerings.
As to the application of this offering, Butler commented: "A local-only offer is perfectly suited to ADSL VPN solutions, where costs are a serious consideration. Companies are now starting to get a glimpse of the true rewards of a broadband solution for inter-branch connectivity and the cost benefits associated with it."
But this also signals good news to smaller home users. "The pace at which the ADSL market is changing at the moment, bearing in mind Telkom`s proposed rate cuts, smaller home users will soon benefit from not only a local-only solution but also reduced line costs and ultimately the true benefits of broadband communication."
DataPro is the first and one of only a few ISPs that will be initially offering this solution.
