Dual-listed Datatec's subsidiary, Westcon, has bought German-based Entrada Kommunikations for an undisclosed amount.
Entrada is a value-added distributor of IT security products, and provides sales support and training services. Westcon will pay cash for the deal out of its current resources.
Westcon was founded in 1985 as an IT sales company in New York. It provides networking, telephony, network security, video conferencing and mobility products through its operations in North and South America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia.
Datatec says the deal enhances Westcon's German presence and, as Entrada has operations in Switzerland, allows it to expand into a new geography.
Entrada, which was founded in 1996, is the second-largest value-added distributor of security products in Germany, says Datatec. Its portfolio includes Trend Micro, McAfee, Juniper and Riverbed.
The German company turns over about EUR63 million a year and will form part of Westcon's European Security operations.
Datatec CEO Jens Montanana says: “The acquisition of the second largest security distributor in Germany allows Westcon to significantly penetrate Europe's biggest economy, and gives its European Security division a wider geographic footprint to better service its customers' requirements.”
Montanana adds Entrada's portfolio strengthens Westcon's security offering in Europe, opening up opportunities to cross-sell.
The transaction is still subject to cartel clearance.
