Datatec`s IT services and network integration company, Logical, has won a significant contract with the UK`s University of Huddersfield for the supply and installation of next-generation networks and associated services.
The university`s campus-wide network, the core of its technology-based learning strategy, has to serve the growing needs of 2 200 staff and 17 500 students. Huddersfield University intends to replace its entire existing network with a business-class solution capable of supporting both its immediate and future needs, offering consistent and guaranteed levels of service across the campus.
Logical was chosen after an extensive tender process. Logical and the university have agreed a commercial framework which ensures that the university receives the best value for money throughout the life of the three-year partnership with an option to extend for a further two years.
The initial contract includes a significant upgrade to the existing infrastructure to increase availability, security and overall network resilience. Complementing this network upgrade is an innovative network management solution that will provide increased visibility of the network, in-depth capacity planning and multi-level reporting. In addition to equipment and software supply, based on products from Cisco Systems and Concord, Logical will provide network design, project management and implementation services, together with ongoing strategic advice on the development of the university`s IT infrastructure.

The University of Huddersfield win is the latest in a long line of major successes that Logical has enjoyed in the UK public sector. Recent contract wins include Sheffield Hallam University, City University and Bolton Institute.
