Logical UK, Datatec`s professional services and IT network integration company, has won a lb14-million (R232-million) contract with Welsh Networking Limited, on behalf of the National Assembly for Wales, to provide a high-speed network that will deliver broadband Internet access to every county in Wales.
The contract will result in the creation of a country-wide broadband network linking all 22 local education authorities in Wales and eight university sites.
The network will provide broadband access to schools, colleges and libraries throughout the country, in support of the National Assembly for Wales` Lifelong Learning initiative.

Says The Assembly`s Minister for Economic Development, Andrew Davies: "Today`s agreement marks the start of work to roll out broadband services to every school, library and lifelong learning centre in Wales. This investment is the most significant cash injection in broadband made by any government and shows how Wales is leading the way. This investment will help us achieve the main targets of the Welsh Assembly Government`s ICT strategy, and will put us ahead of other areas of the UK in bringing broadband within the reach of people."
Logical will design, build, deploy, and test the network, which is based on GSR routers from Cisco Systems, located at seven points of presence. The contract includes all hardware, bandwidth for three years, professional services and maintenance. In addition Logical will also provide a bespoke managed service solution for the network.
