Datavia launches e-business offering

Johannesburg, 13 Oct 2000

The e-business offering launched on the 10th October by IT and related services provider Datavia represents an important step towards realising the company`s vision to become an agile global company enabling its customers to succeed in the information economy. It is an offering which leverages the company`s existing infrastructural, technological and intellectual capacity to deliver comprehensive solutions within the e-business paradigm.

Acting CEO Ebie Mayet explains, "Datavia has been delivering business solutions for almost 40 years. We host the largest applications in South Africa as well as a number of business critical applications over multiple platforms, covering virtually all of the modern technologies and delivery platforms. This means that we have the capacity to deliver IT solutions across the full spectrum of business needs - from customers through internal employee applications to suppliers."

He adds that Datavia considers e-business as a natural extension of the company`s offering. "We define e-business as the use of technologies to enhance business systems and processes, using innovative thinking to create clear strategic advantage. As such, a true e-business scenario extends far wider than e-commerce, which refers solely to financial transactions concluded over the Internet or other computer-based systems. We believe e-business also embraces the total integration of customer relationship management, business intelligence, knowledge management and supply chain management systems - bringing the potential for improved process efficiencies and new revenue streams."

With this in mind, Datavia has focused its e-business service offering on the key information technology components required to e-enable customer organisations, effectively ensuring their electronic interaction and online capabilities while addressing delivery imperatives such as availability, predictability, scalability, adaptability and seamless integration. The chosen areas of specialisation are integration, application service provision, online security, and consulting - using leading technology for enterprise system management, customer relationship management and enterprise resource planning purposes. Any customer needs falling beyond this defined scope will be satisfied through partnerships with respected and reliable suppliers, such that comprehensive solutions can be provided.

Mayet acknowledges that the compelling reasons for companies to adopt the e-business paradigm are equally important in the strategic positioning of Datavia for the future. The reasons include the globalisation trend and increasing importance of global competitiveness; the potential to improve service, increase distribution and grow customer loyalty levels; as well as opportunities for revenue growth while cutting costs and improving margins. "We have a proud tradition of innovation and flexibility, pro-actively responding to the changes in the marketplace through a commitment to leading edge technology and people development," he says. "Our official entry into the e-business arena continues this tradition."

According to Mayet, Datavia aims to deliver its e-business products and services primarily in the business-to-business arena. Not only does the company have extensive experience in corporate applications, but the projected growth in the business-to-business sector of the e-business explosion holds enormous appeal for future business growth.

"We are confident that our e-business strategy has the right components to realise our corporate vision," concludes Mayet. "The customer-oriented culture within Datavia, together with our commitment to innovation, will drive its success."
