The Nigerian high court has set the date to hear the Econet Wireless Group`s arguments against the sale of a majority stake of V-Mobile to Celtel.
The case will be heard at a Lagos high court on 9 June, says Econet spokesperson Sure Kamhunga.
The court will hear whether the sale of 65% of V-Mobile shares to Celtel should be halted until the contractual issue between Econent and V-Mobile has been resolved.
As a 5% shareholder in V-Mobile, Econet sought to exercise its pre-emptive right to match the terms and conditions offered by Celtel for the stake. However, it failed to secure the $1.56 billion within 30 days as stipulated.
V-Mobile subsequently sold the 65% shareholding to Celtel.
Celtel and V-Mobile were contacted for comment, but failed to respond by the time of publication.
