Following the launch of Macromedia`s MX architecture, local distributor and Web enablement specialist, Dax Data, has released details of the second product is the MX family, Dreamweaver MX, which enables developers to both design and code solutions from Web sites to Internet applications, without compromising the product`s approachability for simple HTML users.

According to Jeremy Matthews, MD of Dax Data, Dreamweaver MX combines the visual layout tools of Dreamweaver, the rapid Web application development features of Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev and the extensive code editing support of Macromedia HomeSite into a single development environment.

"It provides a complete, open solution for today`s Web technologies and standards, including accessibility and Web services," he notes.

"Dreamweaver MX extends its functionality to powerful coding and application development and offers strong cross-product integration across the MX family including ColdFusion MX; provides support for the Microsoft .NET Framework as well as Java technology; and support for industry standards such as XHTML," adds Matthews.

The new product is part of the Macromedia`s new MX product family, including Flash MX, FreeHand 10, Fireworks MX and ColdFusion MX. These products provide the ability to deliver rich Internet applications across multiple platforms and devices, sharing a consistent workspace and featuring increased support for accessibility and usability.

Kathy Quirk, senior analyst, Hurwitz Group, believes Macromedia Dreamweaver MX offers an approachable and productive environment for users ranging from beginning Web authors to experienced application developers. "The Dreamweaver environment`s support for multiple server models and XML, combined with its open architecture foundation, enables it to integrate with leading solutions and technologies," she adds.

Dreamweaver MX provides a single integrated development environment for ColdFusion, HTML, XHTML, ASP, Microsoft ASP.NET, JSP, and PHP websites. The product enables complete control over code and design with precision layout tools and high-powered coding features like code hints, tag editors, extensible colour coding, tag choosers, snippets, and code validation. The integrated workspace, shared with Macromedia Flash MX and Fireworks MX, includes tabbed document windows, dockable panel groups, customisable toolbars, and integrated file browsing. Dreamweaver also includes professional-quality, pre-built layouts and code, including site structures, forms, accessible templates and JavaScript functions for client-side interactivity.

"Dreamweaver MX unlocks the benefits of emerging standards and new Web technologies with support for XML, Web services and extensive accessibility compliance to retrofit existing sites and build next-generation applications. It offers support for ColdFusion MX features including enhanced code editing and development capabilities, integrated debugging and powerful visual layout and prototyping," explains Matthews.
