DCC expands product offering with Asus notebook range

Johannesburg, 05 Jul 2005

Distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC) has recently acquired distribution rights for Asus` award-winning range of notebooks, providing new solutions to meet the ever-increasing demands of the mobile market. The range includes models that are slim and lightweight and cater to the needs of multimedia professionals and performance enthusiasts.

Says Jenny Rex, sales director at DCC: "The notebook market is growing at the expense of the PC market - the mobile explosion is eroding this market. While our product offering will continue to include an extensive range of PC components, we are aligning our growth and strategy with the needs of the mobile market by gearing our range of offerings towards mobile solutions to complement our range of mobile networking solutions and peripherals."

The rationale behind Asus` decision to let DCC distribute its notebooks is simple. Says Marvis Hsiao, Middle East and Africa (MEA) sales director for Asus: "DCC was a natural choice as it is a stable, experienced and focused distributor in the South African market. The company is a vehicle to further establish our footprint in this region and our aligned philosophies of delivering best quality and innovation to our customers reflects a synergy between the two organisations."

The initial range of Asus notebooks being stocked by DCC include seven models that range from entry-level to high-performance user requirements. The V65V200DR model from the V6 series features high-performance specifications that include an Intel Pentium M 2.13GHz processor and 64MB VRAM. Bluetooth comes standard with this model, further enhancing its mobile capabilities.

The W5BA170DR from the W5 A series meets the demands for a slim and light weight notebook with its 12.1-inch screen and features a built-in 1.3-megapixel 180-degree swivel Webcam and microphone. The two models from the A series -- one featuring Centrino technology -- provide entry-level notebook options for the user that offer the best functionality for price/value.

The W34A170DR model from the W3 series and the M6WV180DR model from the M6 series feature 14- and 15.4-inch screens, respectively, and are ideal for audio and video performance enthusiasts. Power conservation technology ensures maximum battery life - a key benefit for mobile users. The M52N160CM model from the M5 series is a robust unit that recently won the German IF award, the foremost competition for industrial design. It features a rimless design between the touch pad and palm rest providing a comfortable and fluid user experience.

Says Kathy Pylarinos, Asus product manager at DCC: "We are proud to include the Asus brand name to our range of solutions. Asus is a quality product: the company has its roots in the manufacture of motherboards and is rated the top selling notebook in Taiwan and Russia, third in Turkey and fourth in Italy, illustrating its popularity in these mature markets. This, and the additional benefits of a two-year global warrantee, stylish notebook bag, mouse and many other value-added features made Asus our number one choice."
