Distribution company Drive Control Corporation (DCC) and HP are collaborating on a new mid-range storage distribution programme.

Dubbed the EVA 3000 Turbo Programme, it is being tested on the South African market in an effort to make HP`s EVA 3000 storage solutions more accessible to resellers.

The EVA 3000 Turbo Programme will enable DCC, which has completed full StorageWorks certification for HP`s EVA 3000 storage solution, to extend the certification to its resellers. Resellers can then qualify to sell the solutions to the local market.

DCC`s HP storage specialist, Rudi van Rensberg, says the programme will make HP`s Enterprise Virtual Array 3000 (EVA 3000) RAID storage solution available to a wider reseller market and assists HP and DCC to expand into the small and medium enterprise (SME) segment with storage solutions.

"Because StorageWorks is segmented into volume and value areas, any authorised HP reseller may sell volume products," says Yesh Surjoodeen, StorageWorks product manager at HP. "However, the value product solutions require better technical skills, competencies and certification. This requires an investment from the reseller."

He adds that larger resellers focused on the corporate market have completed the certification, but says the SME market remains underserviced as many smaller resellers are often faced with financial and resource constraints.

"DCC has complied and adhered 100% to HP`s certification criteria and is offering resellers the opportunity to break into the value storage space with HP`s virtual storage arrays," says Van Rensberg. "DCC is assisting resellers with pre-sales specifications, solution design and configuration support. Installation and warranty support will be executed directly by HP Services."

He adds that this will deliver a high level of storage expertise to resellers and end-users. "In DCC, resellers have a certified HP storage partner which will give them the confidence to deliver the benefits of its EVA 3000 storage solution to the local market."

"The SME market is an almost untapped market for our midrange storage," says Surjoodeen. "DCC and HP believe there is significant opportunity to extend our reach to these markets through the EVA 3000 Turbo Programme."

Adam Day, the newly appointed EVA 3000 Turbo programme manager, will ensure support and assistance is given to DCC.
