DCC introduces popular Billion to its range

Johannesburg, 31 Oct 2006

As broadband access take-up grows in SA, users are demanding reliable, quality ADSL modem/router products that offer high levels of functionality and are affordable. To meet this requirement, distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC) has selected the Billion range of modem/routers, which stretches to accommodate entry, mid- and high-end users.

Nology, the agent for Billion products in SA, will deliver this wide range of dedicated ADSL modems/routers to the local market through DCC. Says Riaan Leuschner, MD at Nology, "DCC has a national footprint and is renowned for its service. Our strategy is to leverage DCC's logistics expertise, allowing us to focus on delivering high quality broadband and networking products with enhanced support to DCC and its reseller base."

"This range of modem/routers has already found local acceptance by major local service providers such as MWeb and Telkom," says Pierre Holtzhausen, networking specialist at DCC. "ICASA approved, it sports functionality, such as Quality of Service (QoS), advanced security, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and wireless connectivity that will allow users to connect smoothly and easily, as well as improve network management and security, and lower costs."

Holtzhausen notes, "The Billion range meets key user requirements with built in functionality such as QoS that will enable users to set data priorities and manage bandwidth, preventing any one user from clogging up the connection. Security is also a primary consideration as more people begin working from home or remotely and the need to send and receive data securely grows. The Billion range's built-in virtual private network on some models and pass-through for the rest ensures data travels in an encrypted format, while access to ADSL from the LAN is prevented so user accounts cannot be stolen."

Cost cutting is always high on the list of user priorities and VoIP is more economical and expandable than traditional PSTN phone calls, he adds. Billion's range of VoIP ADSL routers - the 7401VGP and 7404VGO -- feature broadband access, advanced VoIP functionality and security in a single box, enabling reduced call costs for home, SOHO and office users.

"These VoIP routers allow users to convert their telephone line into a SIP line for making calls over the IP network by simply plugging their telephone into the FXS port and connecting the FXO port to the telephone outlet. Thus users can make a normal phone call via the PSTN or a VoIP call via their SIP provider at any time, seamlessly switching between the two as required," concludes Holtzhausen.
