The 2013 edition of the IFSEC South Africa security and fire exhibition held last month at Gallagher Convention Centre has been a success for defenceWeb, which was there to wave the flag and uncover the show's major news stories.

IFSEC South Africa was held from 18-20 June, in Midrand, and attracted 200 exhibitors, including foreign delegations, of which China was the largest. As IFSEC 2013 was bigger and better than 2012, one can be sure that the figure of 6 000 visitors last year was exceeded for 2013. Co-located with IFSEC was OSH EXPO Africa, a dedicated occupational health and safety exhibition, which added more value for visitors and exhibitors alike.

IFSEC South Africa was not just about exhibitors, as it also featured a dedicated Homeland Security Seminar theatre, giving delegates the opportunity to learn more about a range of topics affecting African security, from cyber threats to terrorism. The highlights from these seminars can be found on defenceWeb's pages.

While defenceWeb was there to cover the news, it also had a chance to fire off a few rounds using Red-I-Laser and Dimension Software Engineering's laser firearm simulator. These companies ran a shooting competition that saw the sharpest shooter walk away with a R10 000 prize.

defenceWeb's attendance at IFSEC South Africa 2013 is another example of its mission to be at the heart of the action and to provide extensive coverage of all major local events and exhibitions. The next exhibition defenceWeb will cover is the Land Forces Africa Conference, to be held in Pretoria between 15 and 18 July.
