South Africa's leading retailers know that sourcing the best and most innovative products and services is what gives them the edge in a competitive market with low margins. IFSEC South Africa 2013, a leading commercial security, homeland security and fire exhibition, opens at Gallagher Convention Centre, in Midrand, for a full three days, 18-20 June 2013.
"This is the definitive showcase of the security sector," says Gary Corin, Managing Director, Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery, a member of UBM Montgomery, organisers of IFSEC South Africa 2013. "We understand that retail is a challenging environment and have put together an event that addresses a broad swathe of its needs."
IFSEC South Africa puts key retail decision-makers and senior purchasers in touch with hundreds of prime security exhibitors from across a wide range of disciplines. From retail risk and security solutions to cash-in-transit and CCTV surveillance, the event highlights the latest technologies, the most innovative brands and most effective services out there.
"Visitors to the show can find the right security and fire solutions to match their needs at one central location," Corin says. "We will be providing a dynamic space for over 200 manufacturers and distributors of security and related products. The event covers everything from the best product lines to engaging educational seminars. The dedicated product areas are interactive and put a face on a security brand - so it is easy to source new products or find out first-hand about a company's services. Any questions can be answered on the day and there are live demonstrations throughout the event."
However, more than information, security professionals are looking for solutions that will improve their business profit, boost their image and give them a competitive advantage.
"We see this with the CCTV technology," Corin says. "It not only acts as a deterrent for crime in the retail sector, but offers other advantages - such as protecting the reputation of the retailer, monitoring consumer behaviour and allowing important insight into the operational environment."
CCTV is an effective crime-prevention and protection system, and as such, the video surveillance market is growing, he points out. In South Africa, clients want more than conventional analogue CCTV systems, with a trend towards IP-based CCTV surveillance and digital solutions. IFSEC South Africa will help visitors engage with exhibitors in this field.
Across the local retail industry, the challenge to meet strong competition and the challenge of low margins can be helped by the CCTV security component. "Security is not just about passive vigilance," he believes, "but about being a dynamic part of how a business operates - it must deliver innovative ways of protecting and enhancing a business. CCTV can help understand the patterns and psychology of criminal activity, or even staff behaviour, and companies are relying on it for this type of information."
Cash-in-transit security, Corin goes on to say, is also a security issue addressed at this year's show. Despite a dip in CIT heists over the last couple of years, South African retailers are still vulnerable to these types of attacks. "IFSEC South Africa is an ideal opportunity to look into bolstering your security options in this area," he says. "CIT can represent a serious loss to any retailer, so it's important to look for a security professional that can offer smart technology, trained personnel and back it up with a strong track record."
IFSEC South Africa will feature both local and international exhibitors, featuring some of the best brands available on the market today. The dedicated product areas make it a convenient and easy way to see what is trending in the market and network with key stakeholders. "The show is an opportunity for retailers to source and purchase those products and services they need to protect their money, assets, people and premises with one visit," Corin concludes. "It will educate, it will engage and it will offer the best solutions on the market today."
