In a software deal worth in excess of R1 million, Delareys in Parklands, Cape Town, the biggest hardware store in the Southern Hemisphere, has opted to install the Unisolv point of sale solution from CKS, the retail software solution provider in the JSE Securities Exchange listed UCS Group.
Delareys, a 20 000 square metre store, is running Unisolv on the SCO Unix operating system, with 135 users and 25 POS terminals.
The Parklands store is also linked to its head office in Parow via a Diginet and is able to do updates in real-time, said Gordon Matheson, a director of CKS.
"If someone buys an item at the Parklands store, this sale is immediately updated on the file server sitting in Parow."
Matheson said Delareys is also using the CKS "Traderoot" financial switch. This electronic switch boasts the functionality to switch real-time credit card, debit card, and virtual airtime and loyalty card transactions at the point of sale.
"Through our national network we provide points of access for clients looking for an affordable solution with seamless integration into their retail systems."
The UCS Group offers a range of software, solutions and services for the retail and consumer markets in southern Africa with a growing global presence. With a national footprint of more than 12 000 retail clients the group services the largest furniture store chains in SA, as well as more than 1 100 pharmacies, clothing store retail chains, general retailers and fast food outlets.
