Dell buys Wyse
PC World revealed.
Wyse is an established player in the thin client market. The addition of Wyse will expand Dell's enterprise solutions portfolio and give it a solid platform for developing and providing cloud software and desktop virtualisation, as well as management tools and mobile apps.
According to Information Week, Wyse offers thin client PCs and related management software that's designed to let enterprises establish centrally managed client infrastructures. Last month, the company introduced the T10 "zero client" platform, which gives multiple end-users access to Microsoft Remote Desktop Services through monitor and keyboard-only configurations.
Wyse is also extending its offerings to support bring your own device technologies, such as tablets and smartphones, as an increasing number of workers turn to non-traditional PCs for business computing.
On a conference call with Wall Street analysts on 2 April, David Johnson, senior VP of corporate strategy, said Wyse had approximately $375 million in revenues in its trailing 12 months of sales, The Register reports.
The company enjoyed double-digit income margins that are, in fact, higher than Dell's PC business thanks to the extra software goodies, like the ThinOS operating system in its thin clients and its Stratus cloud-based thin client management tools, which Wyse adds to its hardware.
The firm's sales were up exponentially last year, growing 45%, but in doing the acquisition, Dell is forecasting conservatively and only assuming that it can grow this thin client business at the market rate of around 15% annually, as projected by IDC.
